they're in my skin and my bones.
My wonderful night.

Some of my closest friends made a feature this past year in Ontario and last night was the Vancouver test screening.

We sold beer and gave out popcorn to all those who donated but it really it was just an excuse for all of us to get together and celebrate what in our community of post-film-school-filmmakers(and artists of all kinds) counts as a major success.

Afterwards we went to the bar, danced a little, caught up, debated both Shame and Showgirls and orchestrated what later became a giant caught on camera naked swim in English Bay inspired by one of the most beautiful scenes from the movie.

We were lucky that the police officer didn’t show up until about an hour later when everyone was clothed, finished drinking and just standing in a giant circle and shouting about… well more films. Apparently we got several noise complaints from the residents, poor rich Vancouverites.

On our way back from the beach as we were saying goodbye to those splitting, this shirtless kid came sauntering up and the first thing he said to us was “So my girlfriend broke up with me last month” then he continued to tell us how he lost his job and moved from Alberta to Whistler and was now stuck here. When we asked him where his shirt was he said his friends took it and his longboard and we were like “WELL THEY DON’T SOUND LIKE GOOD FRIENDS!” and just then one of our missing friends rides up from along the beachside on this guys longboard but it takes buddy a second to clue in, “OH JUST LIKE THAT ONE! THE SAME ACTUALLY!” … “FUCK MAN, THAT’S MY BOARD” we eventually parted with him and the rest of our friends but only after he tried to kiss like 4 of us (mostly just the boys).

So after a cab ride to the nearest McDonalds, 3 of us returned home to our friend’s place in Kits where this super sweet musician and his non-girlfriend were also staying and the 5 us stayed up all night laughing at a horrendous new nickname for the female genitalia, a beautifully hand written recipe to cook Heroin by the home owner’s mother and how one of us managed to fall asleep leaning on the floor, elbow on the ground supporting his head with his shoulder for a full 15 seconds as the rest of us just stared.

It took me approximately 2 hours (and some running through the city) to bus home to my shitty ass neighborhood this afternoon but it was also one of the most beautiful days ever.

I know none of you read this but that’s okay because I just missed my friends, a lot.

can you imagine if Canada had Black Friday though

“Oops, excuse me!”
“Terribly sorry, was I in the way?”

“No no, it’s my fault. You go ahead.”

“No really, after you, it’s fine. Look at this high quality product on sale, would you care to have the last one, eh?”
” Oh, I couldn’t possibly, you were here before me.”
“It’s fine, I don’t mind at all. Here, have some Tim Hortons.”

Hahahahaha.

OMG.

YES! LOL

Even though you could technically count Boxing Day as our Black Friday just with like 10% of the intensity.

This photo gave me chills.
This is where my parents come from, the rest of my family lives and where I spent most of my summers (and one full year) growing up.
In my household it’s called “Back home.”

“To young Canadians:

All my life I have worked to make things better. Hope and optimism have defined my political career, and I continue to be hopeful and optimistic about Canada. Young people have been a great source of inspiration for me. I have met and talked with so many of you about your dreams, your frustrations, and your ideas for change. More and more, you are engaging in politics because you want to change things for the better. Many of you have placed your trust in our party. As my time in political life draws to a close I want to share with you my belief in your power to change this country and this world. There are great challenges before you, from the overwhelming nature of climate change to the unfairness of an economy that excludes so many from our collective wealth, and the changes necessary to build a more inclusive and generous Canada. I believe in you. Your energy, your vision, your passion for justice are exactly what this country needs today. You need to be at the heart of our economy, our political life, and our plans for the present and the future.”

I will never stop appreciating you.

I will never stop appreciating you.

it’s really comforting being able to watch their trip as they document and upload to youtube.

Even though I still miss them the same, it’s nice to see their faces again every week.

FUCK YOU.

The post links to an article about a Catholic school board in Ontario banning GSA’s in their schools.

Obviously it is wrong and I don’t agree with it in any way but ‘DEAR CANADA’? REALLY PEREZ? I’m not sure if you’re aware of this but Ontario does not make up the entire country nor does the Catholic school board. This is one specific group choosing to hate and refusing to evolve MUCH LIKE MANY GROUPS IN THE UNITED STATES.

WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, ADDRESSING THAT TO ALL OF CANADA?!

EXCUSE ME BUT DEAR UNITED STATES,

Thanks for finally abolishing ‘Don’t ask, Don’t Tell’. But it is NOT COOL that gay marriage is still illegal in some parts of your country. Also, there’s that Westboro Baptist Church reeking havoc against anything that’s not ‘the Christian way’. I could go on and on about the number of ‘NOT COOL’ things groups of people in your country continue to do to the homosexual community as well as other minorities and the differences in overall acceptance between Canada and the U.S. I come from a multicultural, multi-religious, multi-gendered, multi-orientationed, etc country where I can marry the woman I love in any province I choose but I still spend every day fighting for more human rights and acceptance and will continue to do so AS A PROUD CANADIAN.

Seriously, he is hypocritical as shit and I wish I could say all of this to his face.

We have gay marriage, no nukes and Tegan Quin.
